IMD Update: Do your patients have good health literacy?

October is Health Literacy Month and IMD is celebrating by helping patients increase their own health literacy, enabling them to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing. Better understanding of health information allows patients to have greater agency in their healthcare experience and can also help reduce medication errors, hospitalizations, and medical costs.

The IMD Health Patient Education Platform has several resources that can help your patients improve their health literacy, including materials from trusted organizations including the Institute for Safe Medication Practices Canada and the Canadian Breast Cancer Network. These can be found throughout our platform and on our new Health Literacy page, which shares tips on how to read prescriptions, understand test results, and self-advocate in a healthcare environment.
